Alleged Images of the Samsung Galaxy Note 3 Leak Out, Indicate 5.99″ Display, Exynos 5 Octa CPU and 3GB RAM. Fake or Real?

Samsung’s follow-up device to its immensely successful Galaxy Note 2, the Galaxy Note 3 has been the subject of much discussion, rumors and speculation for the past few months. And not without good reason. The Galaxy Note 2 was released late last year as the sequel to the original Galaxy Note and went on to set sales counters on fire. It was bigger, more powerful and sleeker looking than the original, and one could go as far as to say that it was more popular too. Not to mention, making big-sized display phones become fashionable all over again. It is hence, easy to expect, that the next iteration of this popular device will likely be bigger and better than the Note 2.

A new rumor is now making the rounds, along with a leaked image of what is purportedly the Samsung Galaxy Note 3, along with a few key specs, as reported by MyDrivers. Check it out below.

While the device does look bigger, and follows the same overall design as the Note 2, the i9500 notation, which we think is the reported model number, brings in a huge element of doubt on whether this is indeed the Note 3. All of the smartphones in the Galaxy Note lineup carry the prefix before the mode number (N7000, N7100 etc). Moreover, the i9500 as we all know by now, is the model number for the recently released international version of the Samsung Galaxy S4.

While this wee aspect by itself makes me inclined towards dismissing this image as a hoax, some of the specs that have also been reported seem to be in line with what we could expect from the next iteration of the Galaxy Note. This rumor suggests that Galaxy Note 3 will come with a 5.99-inch Super AMOLED Full HD 1080p display. By now anything between 5 to 5.5 inches seems to be the perfect size for a big-screen device, from a usability standpoint. Anything bigger is likely to border on the clumsy. But that’s what we thought when the original Note came out, and look where we are today. Early rumors suggested a screen size of 6.3 inches, which we have already seen on the recently announced mid-range Samsung Galaxy Mega. So 5.99 inches for the Note 3 sounds about right. It is slightly bigger than the 5.5″ display of the Note 2 and continues the trend of staying under the 6″ mark.

Other key specs which have been rumored include the Exynos 5 Octa CPU clocked at 2GHz for the Cortex A15 cores and 1.7GHz for the A7 cores, a staggering 3GB of DDR3 RAM (although we just can’t understand why any current device would need that much, as 2GB seems to be zippy enough despite all the bloatware that Sammy adds to their devices), 32GB of internal memory and Android 4.2.2 Jelly Bean on board.

While we wold advice that all of this info, including the leaked image, be taken with a large pinch of salt, it is also rumored that the Galaxy Note 3 will be unveiled at the IFA 2013 event in September. As is usually the case, you can look forward to many more leaked images and more specs, not necessarily the same as the previous rumor, till the device, if it actually exists that is, is announced. We’ll be keeping this fella on your radar and will keep you updated if we come across any more juicy information. 🙂
