Get Photosphere on Non Nexus Devices without rooting

stock cam appFor those of you who don’t know, the Google Play Editions of Galaxy S4 and HTC One are getting a spanking new stock camera app by Google which not only looks great but has a much better (not to mention stylish) UI. The app basically is the stock camera app of Android 4.3, which we talked about just a couple of weeks ago but it does bring the Photosphere tech. (feature that allows you to take 360o pictures) to these phones.

Anyhow, the great piece of news is that now anyone running a device with Android 4.0 or higher can now run this app by installing its APK courtesy of Android Central. The whole installation process is really easy and doesn’t really require you to root your device or anything. You just need to download the APK file from the link given below and put it on your SD card. After that go to Settings>Application Settings and check the box which says allow installation from non-Market Sources. Now just go and run the APK file from your SD card using your phone’s File Manager.

Since this is after all an app that was designed specifically for Galaxy S4 and HTC One, it means that you should install the app on your own risk. However, the app (specifically Photosphere) runs perfectly on many high end devices without fail. The only thing you need to be aware of is that on the Nexus 4, this app replaces the stock camera app but it can be removed by selecting “Remove Update”.

Of course the results of the app differ from the stock camera app as several people have reported discrepancies in the images snapped using this app but honestly what were they expecting while using an app that wasn’t designed for their phone? Anyhow you can grab the app by clicking the link below. You can think of it as more of a showing off feature rather than a serious app.
