How to Switch Between Custom and Stock Recoveries

Custom recoveries are quite handy when it comes to flashing non OEM signed packages to your device. However, every time you have to apply an OTA, you have to reinstall the stock recovery to do so. Which can be a big drag especially considering that you have to attach your phone to the computer and enter fastboot commands in order to revert back to the stock recovery once again. Now, once or twice is ok but if you find yourself switching between recoveries constantly, there is an easier way which comes in the form of a root level app called Simple Recovery Switcher.

The app does lack somewhat in terms of a fancy GUI and ease of use but all of that’s quite fixable if you know what you’re doing. If not, just follow our simple guide below that will teach you how to use the Simple Recovery Switcher.

Disclaimer: We take no responsibility for any damages that might be done to your device either during or after the process. Also keep in mind that bricking your device is a real possibility so be very cautious while using this app.

Prerequisites: You need to have root privileges on your device as well as having busybox installed. Also this app will only work on Qualcomm devices that uses the /dev/block/platform/msm_sdcc.1/by-name/recovery structure.

  • Download the Stock and the Custom recovery images for your device from the internet.
  • Place both the recoveries in .img file format onto your device’s internal memory. Name them as stock.img and custom.img, remember the names have to be exact otherwise you’ll end up with a bricked device.
  • Now simply run the app on your device and choose the recovery you want to flash to your device.

Now, we know that the end step is somewhat easy but remember that if you screw up any of the preparation steps, you will end up with a bricked device. In any case, be cautious and happy switching people.
