OnePlus has some really compelling smartphones at very affordable prices, OnePlus X is a prime example. However the company has weird ways of selling their phones, or perhaps a genius way. Either way, the smartphone can only be purchased if you have an invite. This has proven an annoyance in the past and many potential customers were turned off by this marketing gimmick. Thankfully the company is coming slightly to its senses and has made some things easier.
The OnePlus X will be available for purchase without invites every Tuesday. Does that mean you will need invites for rest of the week? Yes you will. Also OnePlus is kind of a big deal in India and it baffles me why this offer is not available there. The Chinese company announced this in a tweet which said, “Do your happy dance – the #OnePlusX is now invite-free every Tuesday! Starts tomorrow.” This will allow international customers to purchase the well-priced smartphone without the hassle of getting invites.
OnePlus X comes with a 5 inch full HD screen coming at 1080 x 1920 pixels. The smartphone runs on Qualcomm Snapdragon 801 quad core processor clocked at 2.3 GHz. There is 3 GB of RAM, 16 GB of internal storage, a microSD card slot, a 13 MP rear camera and 8 MP front camera. All of this is powered by a non-removable 2525 mAh battery. The smartphone also has dual SIM capabilities, supports 4G LTE and comes in a good looking package.
Is the smartphone worth the asking price? That depends on what you want from your smartphone. I personally don’t like the practice of restricting sales with invites. However it has worked really well for the company. Maybe one day all the other smartphones in the OnePlus lineup will go for sale without invites, one can only hope.
