Summary : A Gorgeous Looking Endless Platfromer
I like games which are easy to get and provide hours of challenging gameplay. Sure we can play toned down RPG games to the same effect but Skyward combines the ease of use with competitive gameplay really well. Skyward is not a unique game because we have seen a lot of games share the same concept, tap a button to move forward. However the game does have some unique gameplay mechanics into place which makes it stand out from the crowd.
Skyward is a game about two rotating circles which need to go somewhere, most probably towards your high score. The game brings in innovation in the level generation and design. The circles rotate against each other but one needs to be anchored to a flat surface before the other starts rotating. This means at any given time one of them will need to stay grounded while the other can be projected ahead. I know this is sounding way complicated than it needs to be but once you pick the game up, you will instantly know how the game works.
The 2D yet stylized 3D look of the game is clearly inspired by Monument Valley, even then the game retains some of the uniqueness. It is a fast paced game where you will lose many rounds before getting the rhythm straight. However none of the losses will feel cheap which is good. The game also is kind of luck based because some levels start at an insane difficulty instead of turning it up gradually. So if you get an easy start, chances are you will score well in that round. In a game where high scores are important, luck based factors really dampen the excitement. Some days you will score big on the first run while on some you will be stuck dying almost at the start. I recommend the game if you need a quick game anywhere and at any time.
