It seems like the soft drink industry just is down on its luck when it comes to responding to Coke’s “Share a Coca Cola with” campaign as recent leaks have suggested Pepsi Co. are seriously considering launching a new Android phone.
The leak comes from a Chinese website, which suggests that the phone will be a mid ranged device running on 1.7GHz MTK chipset, 2GB RAM and 16GB of internal storage. The phone will pack a 13 MP rear and 5 MP front camera as well as a 3000 mAh battery. The phone will run Android 5.1 out of the box and would go for about $210 approximately a piece.
The Chinese webpage does go on to mention that the phone will be officially announced on October 20, 2015 and will be a China Exclusive phone. Even though this is a leak, we are pretty confident that the specs of the device will remain more or less the same.
All thing said, the device itself isn’t something too great to look at and considering that this is after all a MTK device, we are skeptical that if it will ever find its way over the ocean towards the western markets. Of course, as of this moment we can only speculate whether the phone will be a success or not but I believe it will be a safe bet to say that it will just be a gimmick device and serve as a marketing promotion offer in some way.
Now the only way this can get any crazier is if Coca-Cola decides to join in with an Android device of its own. To be honest, I am against these marketing promotions as these devices often tend to be novelty phones which more or less get neglected in receiving security updates and end up costing its users data breaches as well as sometimes having their private info being leaked.
