Ever since Microsoft acquired Skype back in 2011, we have seen a whole variety of changes in Skype that has made it one of the best and most used VoIP service providers in the world. It doesn’t really matter whether you are on PC, iOS or Android, the first app that you think of for your VoIP needs usually is Skype.
Keeping true to their mission of making Skype better, Microsoft has just released an update to Skype which has made the app more user friendly and makes the user feel right at home on any Metro device. Yes, Skype 4.0 hasn’t really received any new features or anything but instead has received a more Holo-friendly UI that will make the app seem even easier to use on any Android device of your choice.
The new tweaks place recent conversations right in front of you so to make things a whole lot easier for users as now they don’t have to waste their time looking for people they actually want to talk to.
Microsoft however is also boasting that with Skype 4.0, users will have less performance issues with the app and the whole app will work considerably faster than before. This is quite a bit of good news, at least for someone like me who was often at the receiving end of Skype crashes.
Now I know many of you might think that this update was somewhat inspired by the work done by Microsoft on the Windows port of Skype but honestly it doesn’t matter as Android has supported flat-UI elements for quite some time and with the upcoming release of iOS 7 so will it. This will allow Microsoft to make the app look the same no matter which OS you are using. Of course, it goes without saying that if they decide to show a little more love to Windows Phone users, we will understand.
Anyhow, if you still haven’t received the Skype 4.0 update you can grab it by going to the Play Store (link given below). Do tell us what you think of this new Skype look.
