Look who’s coming up with a brand new 5-inch phablet again. Just when we thought, Huawei was inching ahead of it’s compatriot, ZTE is back in the new again, this time with a new 5-inch Quad-Core powered phablet – The Grand X Quad which has been leaked ahead of its official announcement. The leak comes from a well known tipster @evleaks who has been notorious for his accurate leaks, most of them coming just before the official unveiling of the devices, and hence is pretty credible.
The Grand X Quad bears a strong resemblance to ZTE’s 2013 flagship device – the ZTE Grand S, which also happens to be the thinnest smart phone in the world, and was unveiled at CES i January this year. However, the specs indicate that this could be a slightly less expensive option to the Grand S.
While the specs are pretty decent by themselves, they don’t exactly fall into what is largely considered as high-end. Take a look for yourself and decide.
- 5-inch 720p display
- 1.2GHz Quad-Core Processor
- 1GB RAM
- 2500 mAh Battery
- Android 4.1.2 Jelly Bean
- 8 Megapixel Camera
Not exactly in the league of superphones like the HTC One, Galaxy S4, or for that matter ZTE’s own Grand S, but not too bad either. A true high-end device these days is essentially a tag which gets attached to devices with a Full HD 1080p display, 1.5+ GHz processor, and at least 2GB of RAM. Sure 720p resolution in itself looks pretty darn good on any phone, but doesn’t exactly cut it in the present day, to qualify for a high-end device.
That said, the ZTE Grand X Quad should certainly fall in to the more affordable phablet category, and should be an attractive option for those looking for a decent phablet but can’t afford the likes of the Galaxy S4 or the Grand S. No pricing or availability details are available yet, but you can be sure that we’ll put them out as soon as we find out more.
